About the event
🏮 The Moonlit Pavillion Workshop – A Magical Mid-Autumn in Melbourne
This Mid-Autumn, Joyful Plates invites families to step into The Moonlit Pavillion — a magical space where we learn about timeless traditions and honour it with a splash of creativity.
Time: 1.30pm to 3pm
Children will be guided through an afternoon of imagination and hands-on fun as they:
Storytelling – Begin with a retelling of the Mid-Autumn legend, introducing the traditions that will inspire our creations.
Mix and Colour Dough – Knead and roll soft snowskin dough using natural food colouring. Kids can even mix two shades together to create their own marbled designs.
DIY Mooncake Creations – The highlight of the workshop! Children will choose their own fillings (from traditional favourites like lotus, red bean, or sesame, to playful surprises like Oreo, marshmallow, or fruit jam), press their designs with moulds of moons, rabbits, and flowers, and personalise with sprinkles, edible glitter, and shimmering stardust. Every mooncake will be unique to its maker and a story they want to tell through their mooncake creation.
Dip Dye Chinese Fan Craft – Make a dip dye traditional Chinese Fan in colours that match your mooncake creations
Take a photo with our photobooth backdrop with some Chinese costume props to remember this special occasion!
✨ Each child makes 6 snowskin mooncakes. Parents can add on an additional set of mooncakes if you would like to join in the fun too 🤗
✨ Remember to wear your best traditional Chinese costume!
Limited spots - we will open an additional session if this session fills up.
