One moon. One table. Many traditions.

This September, we’re gathering Under One Moon for a special evening of mooncakes, stories, games and glowing lanterns — and everyone is invited.

Across cultures, the moon, harvest and changing seasons have inspired celebrations centred around family, gratitude, togetherness and food. Under One Moon brings some of these traditions together for one joyful evening of sharing, making and discovery.

🥮 Bring something from your table to ours

Every family or group is asked to bring at least one mooncake or cultural treat to share on our big community table.

We'd especially love something connected to a moon festival, harvest festival or seasonal celebration from your culture. It can be homemade or store-bought — traditional, modern or simply something that carries a story of home.

We'll put everything together, taste what others have brought and discover the stories behind some of the foods on our table.

Bring one favourite. You might leave having discovered many more!

🌕 What we'll do together

🥮 Make a snowskin mooncake

Roll, fill, shape and press your very own snowskin mooncake. Every participant will make one mooncake to enjoy or take home.

📖 Gather for storytelling

Discover stories and traditions connected to the moon, harvest and seasonal celebrations across different cultures.

🎲 Play together

Try traditional and moon-inspired games for children, parents and grandparents to enjoy together.

🏮 Create your own Under One Moon lantern

Explore patterns and symbols inspired by different cultures, then draw, colour and design a lantern that is completely your own.

🌕 Gather around our community table

Taste the mooncakes and treats our community has brought, share the stories behind them and perhaps discover something you've never tried before.

✨ Light up the night

As the evening grows darker, we'll switch on our handmade lanterns and head out together for an Under One Moon Lantern Walk to end the celebration.

🍊 A little note about food

Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

As the heart of this event is tasting and sharing the treats our community brings together, this is not a catered dinner. We recommend having dinner beforehand.

❤️ Everyone is welcome

You don't need to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival or come from any particular cultural background to join us.

Under One Moon is an invitation to come curious — to share a little of your own culture, discover someone else's and create new memories together.

Bring the kids. Bring the grandparents. Bring your friends.

And bring a little something from your table to ours.

Our foods may be different.

Our stories may be different.

Our traditions may be different.

But we all gather under the same moon. 🌕✨

We want everyone to be able to join us, regardless of their ability to pay.

If you're able to contribute, your donation helps us provide food, mooncake ingredients, craft materials and activities, and helps Joyful Plates continue creating accessible cultural events for our community.

As a guide, around $10 per person attending with your family helps us cover some of the costs of bringing the evening together and allow us to cater a little more food and variety — but please contribute whatever feels comfortable for you.
